Argus and Diesel

The Australian Cattle Dogs aka Blue Heelers

Australian Cattle (Blue Heeler) Dog

Here are a some images of Argus and Diesel, Blue heelers of whom my girlfriend and I are guardians.

They are both young dogs, about 14 months old. The photos have been taken at the Warrandyte end of the Yarra River in Victoria , Australia. They love playing in the water, and they love chasing a tennis ball, stick, or anything else one might throw.

They are highly intelligent dogs and are both males, and accordingly, have the occasional fight (or 'blue', as a fight is referred to in Aussie, how ironic:) As such, true to breed, when they get bored, they will invent their own games, which are usually destructive in nature. So in our household, one not only keeps valued items out of children's reach, but blueys' too..... Bluey (aussie slang for ACD) can often get at  items even the children cannot.....look out!

They are an exceptionally loyal dog, and will follow their master closer than a shadow if allowed, and god help the idiot who tries to do wrong by master. Our ACDs are very distinct in personality, one will quite happily lay around all day at his masters feet- loves human contact. Whereas the other needs to be exercised daily, ideally chasing a ball, or frisby.

But both are very pack orientated, and see both adult and child humans as their pack. I have heard that ACDs can be a bad mix with children, but I have found ours are excellent. Although they can play a bit rough for the little ones, they love the endless energy that children have to play fetch and rough and tumble with them, and will protect the children like their pack mates, or, at least, the stock they have been left in charge of. - Regards. Stuart
