Hi,
Attached is a picture of our
beloved "Fred". I recently
stumbled across your web
site and wondered if perhaps he
was a Glen of Imaal Terrier.
The size and coat details
certainly match your description
although the black in his coat
did fade with age, it was always
there.
He was certainly energetic and
on walks would disappear into
the woods for minutes at a time
and reappear looking very
pleased with himself having
given the local rabbits a
fright. He once cleared out a
big infestation of rats from the
garden shed in the space of a
hour. His sense of smell was
superb, often running at full
tilt not looking where he was
going but with his nose to the
ground and suddenly veer off to
the side to follow the scent.
He was good with other dogs
unless either he or they were on
a lead, he could then become a
bit aggressive especially if
they were larger than him. He
never showed any aggressive to
people or children.
He didn't bark much but could be
very vocal in other ways.
We obtained him 11 years ago
from a local rescue centre
when we believe he was about
1 year or 18 months
old having been found
wandering around
Chelmsford. Alas he is no
longer with us but died
recently of a brain tumour.
We had always assumed he was a
cross of some sort with some
Yorkie blood (although much
larger and heavier than a Yorkie) but
would value your opinion if
perhaps he may have been a
Glen.Either way he was a
treasure and sadly missed.
Kind Regards Bob
